What   Is        Sophrology ?   

                      The word Sophrology comes from three Ancient Greek words

σá¿¶ς / sos ("harmony"), φρήν / phren ("mind"), and -λογία / logos ("study, science") and means “the study of the consciousness in harmony” or “the science of the harmony of consciousness”.

The influences on Sophrology include phenomenologyyoga, Tibetan meditation, Japanese Zen meditation, progressive muscle relaxation.

​

Sophrology is a method developed by neuropsychiatrist Alfonso Caycedo from the 1960's. It includes Dynamique relaxation and visualisations (physical and mental exercises). 

​

Sophrology uses the mind-body connection to increase awareness and conscious living, with the aim of enabling us to create more balance and harmony.

We believe that if anything negative happens to the body it has a negative effect on the mind, and vice -versa. Therefore the same happens with positive experience.

​

The Sophrologist adapt a set of exercises that combine breathing and relaxation techniques, gentle movements, creative visualisation, meditation, to promote health & well-being and work on specific goal.

Eating Disorders

We all have a special relationship with food but for some of us that relation can become problematic. Eating disorders are serious conditions related to persistent eating behaviours that negatively impact your health, your emotions and your ability to function in important areas of life. Even if there is 17 different types of eating disorders, the most common are anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa and binge-eating disorder. 

Sophrology comes here often to reconnect to your body and sensation, learn to take control of what you have power on. We work together to offer a holistic plan tailored to you. Our holistic approach means you’ll have all the tools and techniques you need as you embark on your journey.

Family Mediation

 These sessions are intended for couples, siblings, parents and children. Family mediation is a process of building or rebuilding relationship - family bond, focused on restoring or strengthen peaceful dialogue, autonomy, freedom and responsibility of people affected by situations of rupture or separation. 

 With Sophrology, The family mediator, promotes communication,  opens a confidential and safe space for each family member to be and feel understood in its diversity and in its evolution.

Women Health

 

I do suffer myself from endometriosis. Sophrology helped me at the worse stage of pain. It helped me when the pain wouldn't leave me for days. Therefore, Promotion of Women Health through Sophrology, became with the years, essential to me.

At each stage of her life, periods, sexuality, having children, going through the menopause and getting older, a woman goes through so many changes which sometimes comes with trauma. 

In Sophrology, the relaxing dimensions and positive visualizations allow a general well-being, some dynamic and breathing practices are also known to release tension in the abdomen, the pelvis and to increase blood flow in this area. They help to gently stretch, massage internal organs and muscles.

Some aspects of gynaecological diseases make the woman’s nervous and immune system constantly assaulted and under constant stress. The body heals better when it is not in a state of stress, fight or flight.
Relaxation also helps to reduce pain. Practice allows a calmer, positive state of mind, which reduces the way we feel pain and what happens to us.

Sleeping Disorders

Some of the most common sleep disorders are insomnia, sleep Apnoea, bruxism, sleep talking/walking, Nightmares & night terrors, restless leg syndrome, sleep hypoventilation, snoring.

I believe, if you are reading this part, I don't need to explain how important sleep is for everyone. Just as eating, sleeping is one of the primary need. When one is affected we often observe the other getting disturb too. We always advice to consult your GP and make sure your disorder doesn't come from an illness.

However, we know well how anxiety is a massive trigger, and often comes along a poor sleep. Sophrology with a holistic approach, helps to rebuilt a positive relationship with yourself and sleep, make peace with things going on around you, your daily and sleep routine, teach you all the tools you can use to focus on being more relaxed  before going to bed according to who you are and your lifestyle.
